Sycamore Class Year 6

Academic Year 2021-2022

Welcome to Dosbarth Sycamore!

My name is Miss Isaac and I am the class teacher of Year 6. Our class is made up of 18 pupils, including school councillors, team captains, young ambassadors, sporting fanatics, coding experts, artists and more!

Last term Year 6 enjoyed the topic ‘Our Locality’ which included looking at Wales and the wider world as well as our local area. We have also sent our Pen Pal letters to a Realschule in Germany and are awaiting a reply! In the Summer term, our topic will be Celebrations looking at the upcoming Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. We also aim to look at different countries and cultures in the Commonwealth as part of our topic.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the end of the school day.

Healthy schools

Snacks

In support of Welsh Government and local legislation we are continuing to actively promote South Point Primary School as a healthy school. Could we ask for your continued support in providing your child/ren with a daily healthy snack for break time. Please can we ask that children DO NOT bring nuts to school.

Could you please ensure that all snacks are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.

Routines / Other

PE Kits

We have PE on a Monday afternoon this term having a gymnastics focus, please could you ensure children wear their kit to school and tie back long hair for the session.

Homework

The children’s ‘Learning Logs’ need to be brought in every Monday. They will be given open ended research activities to complete over the following week, Monday to Monday. This can be completed in the Learning Log or Google Classroom. This term the children have been given a ‘Homework Grid’ featuring multiple activities to choose from over the coming weeks. Your child only needs to choose one a week to complete. Additional homework to support pupil learning will be set where appropriate.

Spelling

The children have spelling groups and spelling books. They will be bringing their books home on a Monday and subsequently tested the following Monday.

Reading

Could we ask that children bring their reading books to school daily. The children take part in a range of reading activities.  Regular reading practice is essential for every child’s progress and we very much appreciate your support in this. Please sign or comment as to their progress at home so that books can be changed regularly.

Oxford Owl offers a library of online reading for the children to access. Feel free to go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ .

Google Classroom

As a school we use 'Google Clasroom' as our online platform which can be accessed by pupils through their Hwb log in.
